What to Bring on Your Trip North
We have a small store at camp where we stock fishing licences and tackle, including all the lures that have proven most successful for our guests. A limited selection of grocery and confectionery items, such as soft drinks and cigarettes, are also available.
Checklist on what to bring:
your favourite fishing tackle
groceries
beer and liquor, if desired (this is not available locally)
personal items
camera and lots of film
warm clothes, including gloves (and longjohns in late May and September)
raingear and waterproof footwear
insect repellent and sunscreen
sunglasses and cap or hat
a cooler in which to take your catch home
As to fishing tackle, casting or trolling rigs up to 20 lb (9 kg) test are good for lake trout and northern pike, while lighter tackle or flyrods would be good if you decide to go for grayling. Or, for an exciting challenge, try using your flyfishing gear to fish for those lunker northerns. Bring some weedless lures for fishing in weed beds.
If you come during the hotter midsummer time, you could bring leaded line or steel line outfits for deep trolling. Diving planes are popular too. We have a small number of deep water outfits for rent.
Please note that live fish, minnows, or eggs are not allowed as bait in Saskatchewan, so you will need to bring your favourite artificial lures. Spoons, plugs or spinners have all been used successfully.
